St John of God Accord’s Business Development Manager, Peter Newsome is swiftly becoming a valuable resource in the disability sector due to his extensive knowledge of the NDIS. Peter was requested by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to be a panellist at a NDIA webinar in Canberra this month.

Peter was joined by David Bowen CEO of the NDIA, Sue Salthouse, Facilitator, Angela Yee, Northern Sydney District Manager of Local Area Coordination Transition Services with Uniting and Luke Nelson a 27-year-old man with Cerebral Palsy who participated via video link. The Webinar focused on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) readiness. Peter provided beneficial knowledge from his experiences of working with families transitioning into the NDIS at St John of God Accord. The webinar also covered the basics of developing and starting a first plan, implementation and flexibility around a plan.

“The webinar reached thousands of listeners, mainly families. The Agency record over 500 plus episodes of engagement throughout the live recording”, said Peter

“It was very informative, and sharing my experiences enabled families to be more comfortable in starting their plans, said Peter. It can be quite daunting initially for families but their fears appeared to be alleviated as we navigated through the session.”

As an organisation, we strive to support our clients and families in delivering expertise knowledge about the NDIS, our door is always open”, said Tony Hollamby, CEO at St John of God Accord.

The NDIS was formally rolled out on July 1, 2016 and will be completed in two and half years with an estimated 430,000 Australians accessing the scheme.
