Update to Short Term Accommodation (Respite) in COVID-19

Around the world, communities are taking measures to help promote health and safety and limit the impacts of the COVID-19 in their communities.

The safety of clients and caregivers is always our top priority. In keeping with this, we made the decision that from Monday 23rd March 2020 our Respite facilities at Macleod and Frankston would be reduced to two clients per stay. Essentially, we will have two single person self-contained units within each facility.

Unfortunately, this means that we have had to cancel a number of bookings that families have already made for their children. We appreciate your goodwill and cooperation with these measures to date, and acknowledge the stress that is this is caused but hope you understand that the decision is in line with reducing the risk of spread of COVID – 19 while still maintaining a respite service to you all.

We have tried to be as fair and equitable as possible in the reallocation of bookings. As we are unsure of the length of time of the current restrictions we are issuing revised bookings on a month to month basis. We will provide a further update in mid-April for bookings for the month of May. When the restrictions are removed we will revert to your original confirmed bookings.

Before you bring your child to Respite we will be conducting a preadmission call that will screen any risk factors that may inhibit your child attending.

For your information, the house infection control practices are as follows:

  • Thorough washing of hands with soap and water between tasks
  • Regular use of hand sanitiser between tasks
  • Using of disposable gloves for all personal care, cleaning and food preparation activities
  • Maintenance cleaning of surfaces with appropriate disinfectant
  • Use of anti-micro microbial cleaning agents for frequently touched surfaces.
  • Maintenance of appropriate social distancing wherever possible

All our caregivers are compliant in their infection control modules and have been required to undertake a refresher in infection control practices.

Again, we understand the inconvenience and stress caused, but hope that you understand that this is in the spirit of protecting your children, yourselves, our staff, their families and the community in reducing the spread of COVID – 19.
