COVID-19 update for SJG Accord families from Lisa Evans, CEO SJG Accord

The purpose of this communication is to update you in our response and preparedness to the Coronavirus outbreak. I along with the Executive Committee, continue to closely monitor all official health advice on the management of the ‘Novel Coronavirus’ issue. The welfare of our clients and caregivers is at the very centre of all decisions we make in managing our response to the situation. Your cooperation now as we take a planned, considered and safe approach to recommence services is appreciated.

In relation to our services there are some updates that are in line with the announcement from Premier Andrews on Monday;

Community Campus / Group Programs/Individualised Services/Employment Services

We are undertaking a large piece of work to design and plan how we can safely bring back our group programs. As we have more details about how this will look and how it impacts your loved one we will be in contact individually by phone.

Many of our services utilise areas in the community that are considered a place of large gathering such as shopping centres etc. We are continuing to review the locations of all our programs to ensure we avoid places that may have large volumes of people there but are also in line with meeting our client goals.

Services provided in your private home

Please adhere to the measures outlined in the attached flyer and contact us directly if anyone in your home is experiencing cold/flu type symptoms.

Respite – Short Term Accommodation

If your loved one uses one of our respite facilities we will be in contact directly. We are working with our teams towards being able to offer support to more clients per night in the near future. We appreciate this is a critical service for those of who use it, but want to ensure we have all the resources in place to safely accommodate additional clients each night.

Accommodation Group Homes

SJG Accord manages 34 Accommodation homes throughout Melbourne. If your family member resides in one of our homes please do not visit if you have recently travelled or had contact with anyone who has confirmed Coronavirus.

In line with the ease on Restrictions in Victoria homes can now have up to five visitors per house from midnight on Tuesday. Can I ask that you continue to liaise with the home and let them know when you are planning to visit, to ensure that we are complaint with the no more than five visitors at a time.

If you do visit please continue to adhere to good hand hygiene practices, and maintain social distancing from others in the home. Please avoid handshaking and touching. Hand sanitizer will be available for you to use in all our accommodation homes.

Finally, please be assured that I and the Executive Committee continue to review the changing situation daily and will continue to adhere to the advice of the Victorian Health Department and St John of God Healthcare who are our parent organisation.

Planning for the return of services is exciting and I am so pleased that we can now allow visitors into our accommodation homes. It has been such a challenging time and I want to thank you all for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to navigate this new space and what is likely to be our new normal.
