COVID-19 update for Respite families

The latest restrictions announced by the Victorian Government will impact your family member in our Respite facilities. We will be fully complying with the Victorian Government restrictions for the next six weeks.

Based on the latest information the following will apply from 9th July, 2020:

The four reasons you can leave home:

  • shopping for food or other essential items
  • work or study, if you cannot work or study from home
  • to provide care giving, for compassionate reasons or seek medical treatment
  • for exercise (outdoor exercise only, with only one other person or members of their household).

All of our clients who use our respite facilities are impacted by these new restrictions and caregivers have been instructed to
re-implement the Stage 3 restrictions we had in place up until mid-May 2020.

If your family member has returned to their Day Placement and it is remaining open over the next six weeks, and you want them to continue to attend we will support them to do so during their stay. We will check your family member’s temperature when they return to the facility after a day at their placement. During their stay and they will be directed to shower or bath when they return to the house and their clothing will be washed. Please ensure you pack some extra clothing where required.

We will be screening each person that attends either McAlister Respite or Somers Respite prior to their stay; by calling you and asking some simple screening questions. When your family arrives at either McAlister Respite or Somers Respite, they will also have their temperature taken and if it is over 37.5 degrees then we will call you and make arrangement for them to return home to you. The thermometer we are using is an infra-red thermometer and each person’s temperature is taken from their forehead. All of our caregivers are also being screened prior to each shift they work and they are not permitted to work if they answer yes to any of the screening questions or have a temperature over 37.5 degrees.

We have introduced and reviewed our procedures in line with infection control, and Workplace Health and Safety and Wellbeing.
